Weave Every Day

The essence of the Saori Conference for me was the idea to weave every day even if it is only for 5 minutes. When I got home, immediately set up the loom and started to weave. As I weave, I think about my Saori experience. I only spend a few minutes at a time at the loom. I am not thinking about what the finished piece is going to look like. Each time I sit down at the loom, some color or thought grabs my attention and away I go.

Bonnie, this is a test to see if you receive this message. My shawl looks very much like Ginny's.
I will send a picture as soon as I find my camera.

I like that intention.....to just weave a little everyday. It's so easy to get caught up in the planning and finished product goals that I often forget that for me the thrill is just in making cloth.

The colors you're using in that piece really speak to me.

It's interesting that you say these colors speak to you, Valerie, because they are not combinations I usually use. I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone.

I agree that it is important to weave every day, if only 5 minutes. However, to me weaving is much more than sitting at the loom.
I also like the ability to change things/original intentions as I weave. This is one reason I like to weave scarves. I can weave a bit and see that something a little bit different is suggested for the rest of the scarf, or the next bit.

Hi Peg, Thanks so much for your comment. I guess I didn't finish the sentence...even if it is only for 5 minutes...as part of my spiritual practice:)

And yes, the scarf is the perfect vehicle for spontaneity, improvisation and experimentation.

I have that book as well and highly recommend it. I,ve had it for a couple of years and found it quite inspiriting (which is why I just had to attend the Conference. Now I am even more inspired.

I've never been to Europe at all, but I am delighted to know that my blog has!

Thanks for writing.
